William Alton Founder and Chief Executive Officer Phil Hettema, Buzz Price Lifetime Achievement Award Winner, is THG Creative's Founder and Chief Executive Officer. With a distinguished legacy of over 40 years in themed entertainment, Phil leads a world class team of experience designers, architects, and media producers known for creating uniquely compelling guest experiences with great emotional resonance. Notable projects include One World Observatory at One World Trade Center, the High Roller Observation Wheel at The LINQ in Las Vegas, and Beyond All Boundaries at the National World War II Museum in New Orleans. Prior to forming his own company, Phil was Senior Vice President, Attraction Development for Universal Studios Theme Parks Worldwide for 14 years. He was responsible for the creative development of all major attractions and shows, including Terminator 2: 3D, Jurassic Park, The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man, Backdraft, and many more. He oversaw master planning for all five Universal parks, including domestic and international expansion for Universal Studios Hollywood, Universal Studios Florida, Universal’s PortAventura in Spain, Universal Studios Japan, and, most notably, the conception and delivery of Universal’s Islands of Adventure in Florida. He also served as Senior Creative Executive for Location Based Entertainment at Dreamworks. Phil is an alumnus of ArtCenter College of Design, instructed courses at the institution, and endowed a scholarship for environmental design. He has been a guest lecturer at Carnegie Mellon University, USITT, IAAPA, KIN, ICOM, SIGGRAPH, and at the TED Conference. Phil holds four patents for entertainment technology solutions and has been honored with numerous Thea awards from the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) including Theas for One World Observatory (2016), Beyond All Boundaries (2010), FiestAventura (2000), The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man (2000), Universal’s Islands of Adventure (2000), and Terminator 2: 3D (1997). Scott Sinclair Executive Director of Design Scott has played leadership roles in the conceptualization and design of many high-profile themed entertainment projects, including the Dragons Wild Shooting interactive dark ride at Lotte World in Seoul, Korea; the Hello Kitty Theme Park in Anji, China; Tokyo DisneySea; Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland; Sony’s Metreon retail entertainment center in San Francisco and Mediage in Tokyo; and multiple live shows and parades for Disneyland’s Marketing and Entertainment Division. William Alton Senior Director of Design William Alton is Senior Director of Design with over 25 years working in the Theme Park, Hospitality, Retail and Restaurant industries. He has been Design Team Lead for the Universal Studios Hollywood Jurassic World. the Dodgers Stadium Renovation and Entertainment Plaza projects, the Atlantis The Palm Dubai Aquaventure and many other projects in the United States and internationally. He served as Vice President of Design for Paramount Pictures Parks and Resorts where he supervised the creative and design development of all other national and international aspects of recreation and hospitality for Paramount Pictures. He had development oversight on many R&D projects, including VR and AR themed entertainment experiences based on Paramount Films. Alton also worked with major game companies in developing Next-Gen Gamified experiences for theme park applications and worked as a creative consultant and concept designer for Walt Disney Imagineering in the development of attractions and resorts for Disney’s Anaheim, Paris, Tokyo and Hong Kong. William Alton Director of Architecture Jodi has played an integral role in many architectural and interior design projects for The Hettema Group since 2009, including Dragons Wild Shooting at Lotte World, the Malaysia Truly Asia Center, the High Roller Observation Wheel in Las Vegas, DreamWorks Water Park, Meadowlands, and was Lead Architectural Designer for the One World Observatory experience at the World Trade Center in New York City. She is currently in charge of the architectural design for a major theme park in Asia. Jodi was Director of Design at Scenery West Design & Construction, creating turnkey projects involving multiple disciplines, specialty consultants, architectural facility interface, and show integration. She was responsible for projects including Sony’s Where the Wild Things Are attraction in Japan, Sea World’s Cirque de la Mer show in San Diego, Fort Worth Zoo’s Texas Wild! eight-acre expansion, five GameWorks entertainment centers throughout the U.S., and Oakley flagship stores. As Senior Associate at JKI International Architectural & Planning, Jodi executed multiple design/build projects domestically as well as interior entertainment facilities and attractions internationally. Jodi was also a consultant to Walt Disney Imagineering, assisting with exteriors and interiors for Disney’s California Adventure. William Alton Director of Facility Design Dan has played an influential role in the inception and conceptualization of thematic and facility design projects around the world for 20+ years.  His abilities to understand the client needs, collaborate in the development of the program and spatially plan projects has been the focus of his experiences.  Project contributions for notable projects and clients include a range of Master Planning, Facility Design, Spatial Programming, Queue Analysis, Partner Integration, and Blue-sky development of innovative new ride systems.  Dan is also a noted inventor with multiple patents for ride systems, restraint systems and operational components.  Dan has a vast tribal knowledge of theme park components and a strong understanding of operational considerations in the early design phases of projects.  Dan’s 12+ years at Universal Creative allowed him to contribute to a vast number of projects with some notable IP’s including the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Nintendo, Illumination, DreamWorks, Hasbro and many others.  Prior to Universal Creative, Dan conducted facility designs within the traditional architecture world with a range of projects including Hospitality, Commercial, Mixed Use, Residential, Institutional and Religious. William Alton Creative Director Kate McConnell has spent more than 20 years telling stories in live spaces, from theater to theme parks, museums, cultural attractions, and brand centers for a wide variety of clients including Warner Bros., Google, Lionsgate, Universal Studios, and more. Before coming to THG, Kate provided creative leadership in a wide range of roles. In Microsoft’s Customer Engagement Team, she led the development of immersive experiences for Microsoft’s business-facing brand and technology centers. As Executive Creative Director for North America at Neon (formerly Cityneon), she oversaw the development of large-scale, touring experiences for major IPs including Avatar, Marvel’s Avengers, and Transformers. And as Senior Creative Director and Head of Content at Thinkwell Group, Kate led teams of collaborators in the creation of exhibits and experiences from blue sky all the way to opening day. Trained as a dramaturg with a specialization in Shakespeare, Kate places the guest perspective at the center of storytelling, combining powerful narrative structures with playful uses of technology and environment to create experiences that are authentic, enriching, and transformational.
