THG is pleased to note our founder Phil Hettema’s appointment as the new President of the Board of Directors for Ryman Arts. Since 1989, this inspirational arts education foundation has provided free out-of-school art instruction, supplies, college counseling and career guidance to high school students throughout the Los Angeles area.
Ryman Arts was founded to honor the memory of Herbert Ryman (1919-1989), the legendary artist and designer for Walt Disney Imagineering. Throughout his career, Herb was committed to encouraging young artists to reach their fullest potential through courses in foundational skills such as drawing and painting.
Ryman Arts currently offers 40 classes for 600 students each year. More than 80% of these students live in low-income neighborhoods, where free art instruction can have an enormous impact on unlocking the creative talent in our city’s youth.
Phil has been an active supporter of Ryman Arts for many years: “I’m very excited and honored to be a part of this extraordinary organization. Ryman Arts does so much more than train young artists. It develops confidence, expression and a whole host of tools that prepare the leaders of tomorrow. I look forward to working with our amazing staff and board of directors as we continue to lead Ryman Arts in its mission to bring positive change through the arts to hundreds of young lives.”
